PALANI MAKAI PARTNERS, LLC AND KINGS’ SHOPS HOST NEW FARMERS MARKET ON WEDNESDAY, 12/1/2010

Waikoloa.  Thursday, December 2, 2010.  The Palani Makai Partners, LLC and Kings’ Shops hosted their first farmers market on Wednesday, December 1, 2010.  The farmers market will be open every Wednesday, from 8:30am to 1:00pm
The Kings’ Shops Farmers Market, located within the Waikoloa Beach Resort, is the first farmers market to be held at a resort setting along The Kohala Coast and provides a new venue for community members to sell and buy their own produce, find information about “eat local” organizations and enjoy family entertainment on a year round basis.  The new market is an ideal setting to purchase locally grown and produced agricultural items from around Hawaii Island.  It provides a tremendous resource to the local community, who has not enjoyed a farmers market in the area previously.
Nestled in an upscale shopping center, with stores such as Tiffany & Co., Baron & Leeds, Macy’s and Tommy Bahamas, the new farmers market will provide market shoppers with easy access to other resort amenities, such as an inter-resort shuttle which will be convenient for those vacationing or residing at the Waikoloa Beach Resort hotels and condominiums.
The local produce selection at the Farmers’ Market will include a harvest of fruit crops, including lychee, oranges, avocado, and jack fruit.  Locally farmed vegetable offerings include: lettuce, mixed greens, eggplant, spinach, cabbage, corn, a variety of culinary herbs and much more.  Other vendors will provide a wide array of items, such as honey, beeswax candles, orchids, cut flowers, seafood, coffee, tea, artisan breads and pastry.
Slow Foods Hawaii’s local chapter will also have a presence at the market, promoting locally produced and grown food items and allowing a place for visitors to join their organization.
For more information about the market, including how to become a vendor, please contact Tammy Touchet at (808) 895-8787.
